Abstract

This study explores the development and implementation of visual aids to improve vocabulary acquisition among students at Raudhatul Ulum, a primary-level Islamic school. The research addresses the challenge of limited engagement and vocabulary retention associated with traditional teaching methods, which often rely on rote memorization. Visual aids, including flashcards, thematic posters, and interactive multimedia, were designed to be culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate for young learners. The study employed a mixed-methods approach, incorporating classroom observations, pre- and post-assessments, and teacher interviews to evaluate the effectiveness of these materials. Over an eight-week period, students exposed to visual aids demonstrated a significant improvement in vocabulary retention, with a 40% increase in test scores compared to the pre-intervention phase. Additionally, higher levels of student engagement and motivation were observed, as evidenced by active participation and enthusiasm during lessons. The results suggest that visually enriched learning materials, when tailored to cultural and educational contexts, can significantly enhance vocabulary acquisition and foster a more dynamic learning environment. The study concludes by recommending the integration of visual aids in vocabulary instruction and further professional development for teachers to ensure the sustainability of these practices.
